Car insurance: what does the law say?

The 1958 law made car insurance compulsory. It imposes to insure one's car at least with a civil liability insurance, also called third party insurance by the insurers. It covers material and/or physical damage caused to others. Example: injury to a pedestrian or a passenger, damage to a parked vehicle.
